A Transaction Report is grouped by Account. The Default Display selecting Account Name and not Other Account Name seems wrong, the whole group has that account name. The report is of little value with the current setting. The current setting is different to the example reports in the documentation. eg: https://www.gnucash.org/docs/v3/C/gnucash-guide/figures/cbook_TransactionRptAssets.png
How about a screenshot or two to prove that the current report is buggy? Nobody has complained about the Transaction Report so far.
Created attachment 373689 [details] Transaction_Report_Display_Defaults There is one large omission in the Reports section of the guide - reports. It's been said before, a sample dataset would be really useful. I've been looking and haven't come across one. Best I had was an old dataset based on photocopies of check butts.
Ok you're referring to the Display tab. I agree it would be better to show the transfer account by default. I would also recommend the following changes to defaults: * Account Name: false * Full Account Name: false * Other Account Name: true * Full Other Account Name: false * Amount: double The amount shown in double columns Dr/Cr would reduce the number of complaints related to bug 797577.
That's exactly the same as my Saved Report Configuration. :)) Simple enough to give the average moron (me) a chance of understanding what's going on.
Please feel free to write sections into the Reports. As the program itself, the documentation is always a work-in-progress.
fixed in master. We'd encourage an end-user to write missing chapters in the guide. These guides are always best drafted by someone not intimately involved in software development. Submit the draft in https://github.com/Gnucash/gnucash-docs and someone will advise.
What version would that commit flow through to?
