CSV Account Structure as exported from GnuCash (5.68 KB, text/csv)
2019-01-07 10:49 EST, Markus Graf
no flags Details

Description Markus Graf 2019-01-07 09:05:20 EST
GnuCash version Version: 3.4 Build ID: 3.4+ (2018-12-30)
OS version Mac OSX 10.14.2 (18C54) using German as system language.

What I did:
- Export account structure using File > Export > Export Account structure as CSV
- Created a new file with default accounts.
- File > Import > Import Accounts
- Select the previous exported CSV-File

But now it does not preview any rows regardless what numbers of columns I enter.

I checked the encoding, it was UTF-8 as expected.
I started the GnuCash from terminal, no errors are shown.

Any solutions?

I stumbled over https://bugs.gnucash.org/show_bug.cgi?id=782850 and tried to change the encoding of the CSV file to CP 1252 or Mac Roman. But both approaches were not successful.

Can you attach the exported csv file, make sure it does not contain any personal data...

CSV Account Structure as exported from GnuCash
Comment 4 Chris Good 2020-05-26 04:02:34 EDT
I have been able to preview the csv file correctly using GnuCash V# 3.10 on Windows and Linux V# git 3.902-168-gc12ae077f+(2020-05-24), both set to English (Australian). I did not actually finish the import, but I have seen funny UTF-8 characters successfully imported previously so expect it will work using German too.

Can you please test using latest stable version?

For Windows 10 I probably found a solution in system settings for the problem on account structure import resulting in funny characters. Reason seems to be missing UTF-8 support by operating system. UTF-8 support can now be added to Win10 but still is in BETA release.

See full instructions as stated this comment:
https://bugs.gnucash.org/show_bug.cgi?id=782850#c11

If you are able to verify please report your results.

This is a MacOS bug, it has nothing at all to do with Windows.
