Description Zip Zit 2018-10-08 18:54:08 EDT
So I'm using GnuCash for my business, as well as for keeping track of checkbook transactions. I'm importing .csv data from the bank, and often the words in the description block that the bank provides is lacking.

So I'm doing a whole lot of editing.

for example:

description: `CHECK # 0000996317`

I want to append/update the description to: `Monthly Water Bill, CHECK # 0000996317`

So I go to the description field in my checkbook account to do the editing. I click in the box, before the 'C' in CHECK. The instant I hit the Shift key, the whole entry "CHECK # 0000996317" gets highlighted blue and the instant I start typing the letter M (as in Monthly...) the check # disappears into the ether forever. Frick. I can type pretty fast and this obscure behavior just won't do. I can't believe its intentional. I'm more than frustrated from losing original content, in this case the check number.

And to make matters worse, there is no Control/Z (undo) available to get that check number back. This is really a pain in the neck. Note: I just updated to version 3.3 today... previous version was 2.X something... I don't remember ever seeing this defect before.

Is anybody else seeing this behavior?

Many thanks

I think someone might have mentioned it on IRC, and it's likely related to bug 796875 and bug 796888.

I think this is fixed (except for the control-Z part, GnuCash doesn't implement any undo facility). Please try
https://sourceforge.net/projects/gnucash/files/Development/gnucash-3.3-2018-10-27-git-3.3-49-g7280712c8%2B.setup.exe/download

GnuCash 3.4 has been released two weeks ago. Can you please test and report back whether this issue is now fixed (the missing undo is not part of this bugfix) ?
