Description Øyvind Jensen 2009-04-04 18:36:16 EDT
Please describe the problem:
Filling in values manually in the budget page is cumbersome because values are not stored if you move the cursor to the next month by pressing <tab>.

A workaround is to press <enter> and then <tab>, but this is cumbersome.

Steps to reproduce:
1. open a budget page
2. click to enter a value in any account
3. enter for instance "1000<tab>"

Actual results:
The cursor moves to the next month, but the value, 1000, is lost.

Expected results:
I would expect that the value 1000 was registered before the cursor moved to the next month.

Does this happen every time?
yes

I've noticed, and been bugged by, this too.

another workaround is to go to the next field with the mouse. (even more cumbersome than enter+tab though :( )

Confirm this bug as well on 2.3.10 running on Windows 7
Comment 5 Roger 2011-03-05 05:39:42 EST
Confirm still present in 2.4.3 Windows XP.
Comment 6 Jason 2012-11-09 14:39:45 EST
Confirm still present in 2.4.11 on Windows 7

Confirm still an issue in 2.6.0 Windows 7. Also, the saving seems to take lots of time, so this workaround seems to make this more cumbersome.

Things are worse now with 2.6.0 in Windows XP SP3 (and I suspect Windows 7 but I haven't tried, yet). The <tab> now moves to another panel rather than next entry. I used to be able to rapidly enter by entering amount, pressing <Enter>, then <tab>, and repeating in rapid succession. This no longer works and the primary work-around for me has been to enter the amount, and then press <Enter> and double-click on next entry.

See bug #678028 regarding the behavior of the <tab> key

I will add (using 2.6.12, xfce, debian stretch) if you select a line on the budget report, arrow right (to select one of the value columns), hit enter, type a number, and hit enter, the behavior is as described above. If you right-arrow over to one of the value columns and start typing a number (without hitting enter first), a text box opens at the bottom of the grid area. If you hit enter (or tab) after filling out a number, the text box disappears without entering any value anywhere (that I see).

Fixed in GnuCash 3.6 thanks to a contribution from Adrién Panella.
