Description Neil Williams 2006-09-11 17:14:24 EDT
A placeholder account is not identified as such in the register (at least by default) and not at all in the account window. Double-clicking such an account opens the account window and the only clue that the user cannot enter a transaction in that window is that the date field is not highlighted.

Maybe the toolbar icons should be greyed out when a placeholder account window is viewed.

Maybe the tab for the placeholder account should indicate that it is a placeholder somehow.

Maybe break the double-click convention and actually open the subtree within the register window instead of opening a placeholder account window in the first place. After all, what can the user do with a placeholder account window apart form close it?

I agree. The fact it's a placeholder should be visible somehow in the account tree window: different icons, greyed out account name and such.

I also agree the placeholder flag should be obvious in the (read-only) register window of the respective account.

I wouldn't change the double-click behaviour based on the placeholder flag, though.

Why would you allow the user to open a register on the placeholder account ? I don't see a usecase for that, unless a placeholder account can hold actual entries. But that defeats the original idea of a placeholder account, right ?
